Work For Your Share
A Workshare member is someone who commits to working on the New Roots Farm (310 13800 S, Draper, UT 84020) on a weekly basis for the duration of the season in lieu of paying for a CSA membership. Workshare members commit to 4 hours per week for the duration of the CSA season, which will run for 20 weeks between June 16th and October 27th. In exchange for their labor, Workshare members will receive a full share, valued at $35.00, for every week that they work. Workshare members play an essential role in the successful preparation and distribution of CSA shares, and we are excited to welcome a new cohort of helpers to the farm this year.
We will select 10 individuals to take part in our 2021 Workshare program. Applicants who are able to commit to the full 20 weeks will be given priority. Other factors that may be taken into consideration include:
Existing familiarity with and/or past volunteer work with New Roots or other farm-based programming.
Reliability and availability to work at the farm on a regular, weekly basis.
Financial limitations and whether the Workshare program is the only way an applicant would be able to participate in the CSA.
Is Workshare Right For Me?
Workshare membership is more than just a volunteer opportunity, it is a season long commitment and a chance to become a working member of the farm. Interested applicants must be able to perform hard physical labor, including lifting 50 lbs, squatting, bending for long periods of time, pulling and pushing. Workshare members need to be prepared to work outside in the sun or in inclement weather.
Our Workshare shifts are predetermined and we can offer limited flexibility. We ask that every Workshare member chooses to work either of the following shifts each week:
Tuesdays, 12pm to 4pm
Wednesdays, 10am to 2pm
Members can plan to miss 2 weeks out of the total 20 week season. Workshare members must give staff at least one weeks advance notice for any planned absences.
